What Product Proof Does
Product Proof is a Shopify app that displays the number of shoppers who currently have a product in their cart. This helps store visitors see real-time purchase activity on product pages.
Data We Collect
Product Proof collects the minimum data necessary to provide aggregate cart counts:
- Anonymous Visitor ID — A randomly generated UUID stored in the visitor's browser (localStorage). This ID is not linked to any personal information.
- Cart Product IDs & Quantities — The Shopify product IDs and quantities in a visitor's cart, used to calculate how many people have each product in their cart.
- Shop Domain — The Shopify store domain, used to associate cart data with the correct store.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information (PII)
- Payment or billing information
- Browsing history or tracking cookies
- IP addresses (not stored or logged)
How Data Is Used
The collected data is used solely to calculate and display real-time aggregate cart counts on product pages. We do not use this data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than the core functionality of the app.
Data Retention
Cart entries automatically expire after a configurable period (default: 24 hours). Expired entries are permanently deleted by an automated cleanup process. No historical cart data is retained beyond the active expiration window.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, share, or transfer any collected data to third parties. Data is only used within the Product Proof application to provide its core functionality.
Data Storage & Security
Data is stored in a secured PostgreSQL database. All communication between the storefront widget and our servers uses encrypted HTTPS and WSS (WebSocket Secure) connections.
GDPR Compliance
Because Product Proof only collects anonymous, non-personal data (random UUIDs and product IDs), it does not process personal data as defined by the GDPR. However, we respect all data rights:
- Data Deletion — Store owners can request deletion of all data associated with their store by contacting us.
- Visitor Control — Visitors can clear their anonymous ID at any time by clearing their browser's localStorage.
CCPA Compliance
Product Proof does not sell personal information. The anonymous data we collect does not constitute personal information under the CCPA.
